LGBTQ Programs

The Office of Student Life provides resources and programming for the support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning students, both undergraduate and graduate.

Student Life's goals are to affirm the existence and development of LGBTQ individuals at Brown, and to support both a strong and welcoming community among them, and functional links to allies within the larger institution. They work to diminish the prejudice which not only impairs the educational experiences and the safety of individual LGBTQ students, but also impedes the development of others within the institution.

To achieve these goals, Student Life seeks to provide safe spaces for students to gather and to do academic, social, and political work. They also meet with individual LGBTQ students about their aspirations and concerns. They also meet regularly to advise student LGBT leaders; they direct the Renn Mentoring Program, which pairs LGBTQ students with LGBTQ faculty and staff; they support the development and planning of LGBTQ Pride Month programming; and they identify and refer students to other helpful people and services at Brown and in the wider Providence community. They are also one of the places on campus for reporting LGBTQ bias incidents.
