She leads campus-wide master’s career development workshops, meets with students one-on-one, and supports departments with their graduate career initiatives. “My main priority is to help graduate students more clearly articulate who they are and the value they want to bring to the workplace of their choice. I help graduate students take inventory of their skills, strengths, and desires to create an action plan that brings them closer to their vision of their dream career,” says Kargbo.
Being a Brown alum herself, Kargbo has first-hand experience working across many areas of the University. In this role she is excited to help brainstorm new, collaborative ways to better meet student needs, strengthen current resources and establish new support networks. She has enjoyed hearing about the range of career interests and goals from students. “It's always a really interesting conversation to hear the types of roles that most excite Brown graduate students and a true pleasure to help them find the language that best describes this new phase of their professional lives,” she says.
Kargbo received her Ph.D. in American Studies from Brown in 2018. She held a number of different roles as a graduate student and after completing her degree, including as the Graduate Student Programmer for the LGBTQ Center, Director of Graduate Studies for public humanities, Project Consultant for the Rhode Island Foundation, and Visiting Assistant Professor at RISD and Northwestern.
