Fall Remote Study Requests for Incoming PhD & MFA Students

This Fall, Brown will be operating on the traditional two-semester academic calendar with primarily in-person operations. Students who are taking courses will be expected to participate in-person, with limited exemptions for students who are unable to do so due to health concerns or disability.

We recognize that some international students face difficulties arriving for the fall due to delays in visa processing and travel restrictions. For most new international students, your program begin date is August 25, 2021, as indicated on your immigration document I-20/DS-2019.

If you are an international student and are unable to arrive in Providence within one month of August 25--that is, by September 25--you must request a deferral, in consultation with your graduate program, by August 1, 2021. Please contact your academic department to request a letter of support and plan to defer. The letter should indicate up to which date during the fall semester you may enter the U.S. to begin your program. Please forward a copy of the letter to the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISSS), so they can adjust your immigration document accordingly.

For more international student FAQs, please see the Global Brown FAQ webpage

If you cannot participate in-person this fall because of health concerns or disability, please contact Student Accessibility Services (SAS) as soon as possible. You will need to complete the registration process through their office.

If you have questions, please email Graduate_School@brown.edu.

Sincerely,
Brown University Graduate School
