Teaching Resources for Graduate Students

The following message is sent on behalf of the Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning and the Digital Learning and Design Team.

Dear Graduate Students,

We understand that these are busy and challenging times, and we appreciate the time and thought you have put into your plans for the upcoming fall. For those of you teaching this upcoming year, please find next steps to support you transitioning your course to online or hybrid instruction.

Make use of online and hybrid instruction support resources

  • Questions? Contact Digital Learning and Design Hub (Sheridan Center) at dld@brown.edu.

Request digitization of course materials

  • We will be planning for all course reserve material to be online in Canvas in the fall, so we encourage you to add your requests to OCRA, the course reserves system, as soon as possible. Information about reserves and other ways the Library can assist you are included in this online guide to teaching support.
  • Questions? Email rock@brown.edu.

For those of you in teaching assistant roles this upcoming year:

Participate in upcoming Online GTA Orientation
In conjunction with the Graduate School, the Sheridan Center offers an orientation for Graduate TAs designed to complement departmental TA training. In this fully online, asynchronous, self-paced orientation, Graduate Teaching Assistants aim to improve their students' learning and their own experiences as teachers through a reflective exploration of their own practices and beliefs about teaching. While this orientation is designed for Graduate TAs who are new to their roles, experienced graduate student TAs and graduate instructors may also find the program useful as a continuing professional development opportunity. Registration opens Friday, August 7, 2020Full program and registration details can be found here.

Questions? Contact sheridan_center@brown.edu.

We, and the members of our teams, look forward to working with you.

Best,

Catherine Zabriskie, Senior Director of Digital Learning and Design, Sheridan Center
Nora Dimmock, Deputy University Librarian, University Library
Mary Wright, Executive Director, Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning
