My time at Brown has been very rewarding. The courses have a strong focus in expanding students’ quantitative skill sets and helping students understand how theories are tied and tested in the real world. The faculty and doctoral students have been great mentors, constantly offering advice regarding research and ensuring that I can quickly adapt to graduate school both academically and personally.
I am pursuing a master’s degree to further my undergraduate study in mathematics by applying it in the broader subject of humanities and strengthening my quantitative skills through individual research projects and internships.
The current global crisis has affected the timeline of my internship, which is delayed to the fall semester due to a concern of restricted business activities and fewer employment opportunities in Providence during summer. Although my current courses are proceeding very well with remote learning on Zoom, it is sometimes difficult to perform research with limited access to libraries and labs.
After graduation, I hope to employ my analytical skills in a data analyst role and use my knowledge with various software programs including ArcGIS, SPSS, STATA and R to drive practical solutions to real-world problems for consumer-centric businesses or non-profit organizations.
In my spare time this spring, I joined Brown’s Ballroom Dance Club and met a group of talented dancers. The several competitions we went to together this semester have been an unforgettable experience for me.
