Partner Spotlight: Julie Weber, Ombudsperson

The Brown University Ombuds Office is a resource that is here for you.

Julie WeberJulie Weber began her role as Interim Ombudsperson in March of 2020. Weber has spent her career focused on helping people navigate their way through workplace conflict. Prior to coming to Brown, she worked as an ombuds, employment lawyer, employee relations and compliance manager, and policy specialist focused on work-family legislative and corporate policy. She also is a trained mediator and a certified organizational ombuds practitioner (CO-OP®).

The Brown University Ombuds Office is dedicated to providing a confidential, off-the-record, neutral, and independent resource for all members of the Brown community to discuss and obtain assistance with any workplace or academic issue or concern they are experiencing. With a focus on fairness, equity, inclusion, effective communication, and a healthy University culture, the Ombuds Office is a place where you can come to share your concerns and ask questions freely.

More specifically, the University Ombuds can help by:

  • Listening attentively to your concerns
  • Helping identify a range of options for moving forward
  • Assisting you with understanding University policies and procedures
  • Referring you to other resources inside and outside Brown
  • Coaching you on conflict strategies and skills
  • Mediating disputes
  • Providing group facilitation
  • Offering tailored training on a range of conflict resolution and workplace communication topics

Operating in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the International Ombudsman Association, the University Ombuds Office is staffed by Julie Weber, the interim University Ombuds. New to Brown, Weber is excited to join the Brown University community and welcomes hearing from you.
